Most recently used programs list not updating

I'm using a PC running XP Home SP1. I have noticed that the most
recently used programs list on the Start Menu is not updating itself. I
just opened and closed four programs, but none was displayed on the Start
Menu. Just programs I ran several hours and days ago. I know how to clear
the list, but was hoping to fix this glitch first. Any ideas?
