Hello...
I would love for someone at Microsoft to help figure this out. I left a
question or two last week sometime, and what I got in replies was a software
program I'd have to pay for, and a solutions page that wasn't a solution to
the specific problem...
Here is the problem...
When I log in to my WinXP-Pro machine with my own named account, my Windows
Taskbar (you know, the big blue thing on the bottom that starts with the
Start button and ends with the clock), is messed up in this respect: It will
NOT display ANY of the application buttons in the centre of the taskbar (the
area between the QuickLaunch toolbar and the System Tray/Notification Area).
When I minimise any open application window, the animation appears to drop it
BEHIND the QuickLaunch toolbar and I cannot see the application buttons. I
have tried to unlock the taskbar and resize the QuickLaunch toolbar, but it
appears that this toolbar is SET TOO LONG, and will NOT resize. I have tried
to undock the QuickLaunch toolbar, but if I do that, the ENTIRE Taskbar
minimises, and WILL NOT RESIZE.
This problem DID NOT SURFACE until AFTER I installed Microsoft's June
"Critical Updates" set and updated Windows Media Player 10 since its update
feature indicated there was an update (which ended up re-installing
WMP10!!)... up until last Tuesday, ALL WAS FINE with this machine. The
interesting anomaly is, that this problem DOES NOT OCCUR if I log into the
machine under the Administrator account, but it DOES occur if I log into the
machine under the account with my name (which, incidentally, I have my
name-account set as an Administrator).
My only guess is that something in either the set of critical updates, or
something in the action of WMP10 re-installing itself, screwed up my Taskbar,
but ONLY FOR ONE account on this machine!
Incidentally, I have run a full spyware/adware sweep on this machine using
THREE different spyware detection programmes, and have also done a full virus
scan... ALL SHOW UP NEGATIVE.
If someone has a viable answer that doesn't include buying someone's API for
$5 just so it can change the registry (which I can do myself), I'd greatly
appreciate the input.
