I would think that all a home user would need to do is disable DCOM on the
machine. The home user has no need to have DCOM enabled. It is part of COM
technology in a business networking environment and no one out side a COM
COM++ or MTS business solution would be using it.

Home users with Win ME are not subject to the vulnerability. It
affects only newer OS having hyped superior security. LOL!

It's a bit more involved than it appears. Some users do actually use
dcom at home. And dcom interfaces are sometimes active on the loopback
adapter. People should have been thinking about firewalls when the
messenger spam starting hitting, but instead a bunch of malinformed
people suggested simply disabling the messenger service.

It comes back to not having a firewall on the machine or a firewall
appliance in front of the machines protecting the network. It's not an
issue on my home network or my company's worldwide network either. :):)

wouldn't be the first time you've over spoken your abilities,

There seems to be an ongoing history with this Duane Arnold character
in several newsgroups--- he goes in, shoots his mouth off, then gets
angry when ANYONE disagrees with him. I have found his weakness,
though --- he can't stand to be insulted; also, he plays the role of
crybaby when he can't impose his will and opinions on everyone else.
He is a disturbed fool, indeed!

He's pretty much trashed the comp.firewall newsgroup-- he is a self-
appointed boss there--- he runs around barking orders and dishing
out "expert" advice--- then, he goes into a rage when anyone trashes
his demands or his beloved crapware Black Ice. Rather than choose to
ignore those he disagrees with, he confronts them and demands their
resume' and tries to insist they immediately disclose all their IT
knowledge right then and there. Perhaps Stalin is his hero?

It's easy enough to killfile people (and you should put him there!),
but it's also good to warn others when a sociopath such as Duane is on
the loose! He has made this into a habit in the NG's--- he must be
way too starved for attention! Be forewarned of his presence in any
group!

What bothers me is that Duane called Art "a damn idiot" when he
really meant "a damned idiot". What is happening to the English
language?!

And now that I have learned how to open the thread to see posts of killed
Xnews posters Bart, I can see that WASP386 *clown* has started stalking
me around the Internet just like your dumb butt did over a year ago. Do
me a favor and give the that Taco Bell Supreme *clown* a couple of your
Prozac pills. I would appricate it.

When I post, I come with the facts I don't mess around. And one thing
that can be counted on from me, even though I may have issues with you,
Art or anyone else. I am not going to stalk people around the Internet
like a damn *clown*.

One other thing, that post I made to David was between him and I about
firewalls and you had no damn business posting. I'll tell you and Art
flat-out I didn't tell anyone to get a FW and I didn't tell anyone to
follow me either and I don't give a rat's ass if these people that are
listening two you two *clowns* and others ever get a FW. It don't me
*jack* to me, but it means something to you *clowns*.

I'll tell you what you and Art can do. You can take the computer that Art
has that is running ME and DCOM and stick it up your butt. And Art can
take the ME O/S that has DCOM and install it up his butt. And WASP386 can
take another computer and stick it up his butt.

From what I have seen, none of you *clowns* no anything about computers,
period.

You are right. Art came with a clown's post about ME and Dcom. And then
along comes Prozac Bart with his crap.

I am score file killing the entire thread and a 100 day killfile on Art.
I don't want to see another stupid post from him for awhile.

No pharmaceuticals for me, thanks, just plain ole nature's herb,
but I'm not surprised Dr "D" thinks in those terms, probably has to
gobble up a handful every day.
