More IE6 problems

Okay, I'm using XP Home, and I had that problem that's on
here a lot about only being able to save pictures as
bitmaps. I took the advice that was posted and "cleared
my temporary internet files". The computer seemed to hang
for a long time and eventually I got the "not responding"
thing. After closing that window, I looked at my
temporary internet files folder, and all it contained was
a number of (empty) folders. I've tried a couple of times
since, with the same result.

First, why did my computer "stop responding" when asked
to do something that should be routine? Second, can
(should) I delete these empty folders manually? Third,
can this have something to do with the fact that now when
I save a .jpg picture it saves with a ".jpe" extension?

Make sure the your .jpg files are associated correctly.

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

I couldn't find any mention of my problem on that site.

All the "confirm open after download" box does is specify
that the file will be opened after it is downloaded. This
has nothing to do with the "Save picture as..." command.
