Perhaps some parenting classes? You cannot replace your parenting skills
and responsibilities with a piece of software. Lay down the rules, monitor
his activity "in person" on a random basis, check the TIF and history
folders randomly and do so while he is on). If you find a violation,
restrict or eliminate his/her use of the computer for an appropriate amount
of time.
Put the computer in the living room or other public area. The kid will know
he is being watched. You think you will engender trust by spying on him?
Geez, why not just drill a hole in the ceiling and install a camera so you
can see everything he does behind closed doors.
For some requirements, you may find it easier to invest in a
3rd-party solution, such as NetNanny or CyberPatrol.
You need to be aware, however, that *NO* technical or software
solution is fool-proof, and _none_ can ever adequately take the place of
live adult supervision. If you cannot trust your children to
safely/properly use the computer without supervision, you may have to
consider limiting their access to it.
