Reference "monitor goes dark" 6-14-09 below.

Here's another question.
When I switch the resolution of the video card to 800x600, it acts up and
goes dark. When I set it to 1024x768 it works fine.

Why???

Without finding the previous post, please give fuller details on your
problem.

The reason why the monitor "acts" up when using lower resolution,
without greater details on the computer's configuration, this would
mean you might not be using the correct video card drivers from the
video card manufacturer, XP comes "bundled" with several video card
drivers but they are extremely "limited" in their functions.

I checked on driver and it's up to date.
I had the adapter set at the 1024x but wondering why it won't work at 800x.
I replaced the card and it works fine on all settings. Plus the card that
acts up works fine in my other system so I'll just leave them switched...
This isn't that big of a deal, just trying to learn.

This is opening statement from previour post;

Moved system to another room at home and now this is happening.
When winxp starts, the monitor works fine. About 1/2 way through startup the
monitor goes dark and the green 'on' light flashes.
I had to shut down power and restart. scan disk starts and after running
through to 100% and giving detail of scan, monitor goes dark.

Even though monitor does dark, the system keeps starting. I hear the little
MS gingle, the HD keeps running, etc.
The only thing I did was replace the LAN card with a wireless card. When
this started I removed wireless card.

I can't get into SAFE mode. Hit F-8, safe mode and system tries to restart
in normal mode.

Any suggestions please,

Perhaps because the monitor wasn't built to support the lower
resolution? What do the technical specifications in its manual say?

Moving desktop / tower PCs can cause some "add-on" cards to somewhat
come "unseated" from the main board (aka motherboard.) You may have
to open the case and check the video card to make sure it is correctly
seated.

A second possible cause is that the new power outlets are incorrect.
Either the polarity is revised or the power ground is not correct.

According to the monitor spec, it should be able to go down to 800x.
Since I switched adapters, I've had no problems with either system no matter
what the settings, go figure.

Problem was directly a result with the video card drivers. Since you
change the adapter, the "newer" adapter drivers are correctly set up
for the 800 x 600 resolutions.
