Monitor showing only lower half of screen

I have a five year old LG Studioworks 995E that started acting up ( shutting
off by itself and going dark for a few minutes at
a time ) and now finally the upper half of the screen is gone. Wondering if
it's worth fixing or just throw it in the Recycle dumpster?

If indeed the monitor is bad (which is sounds like) and not the video card
(you should test the
system with a different monitor or your monitor on a different PC), then
getting it repaired usually isn't worth it. The cost of a new monitor with
a
a full warranty is typically the best option.
