Monitor Screen went Black

I just bought a new Westinghouse 22" monitor. I was trying to change the
resolution setting from the default to a higher resolution. I was finally
able to change the resolution setting after going through a number of steps,
when I went to reboot the system starts up and then it goes black. I can
hear that my computer is on, but the monitor is completely black. I am then
unable to reboot my computer by pressing Alt-CTRl-Delete. I have to manually
turn my computer off. I have done this a number of times and each time the
turn the computer back on it appears to be okay, I get the windows is
starting up information, but then at some point the screen goes black. Please
help, I know it has something to do with my drivers, something about my
computer needing to support my new monitor, but now I can't get any
information on my monitor. Do I need to hook my computer to another monitor
in order to change the setting back?

Thank you in advance for your help!
