Monitor problems after reinstall

after reinsalling xp pro, monitor satrts as normal, but
powers down during splash screen ( does not open xp).
works ok in safe mode, and was told it was ok on different
monitor after reinstall.
why is this happening ?

This is happening because you've got the resolution in Windows set to
something that your monitor doesn't support. Go into Safe Mode and set
the resolution to the basic vga settings. Now go into regular mode and
set it to where it should be (check your monitor manual if you're
unsure, but some standard resolutions are 800x600, 1024x768,
1284x1024).
