Monitor Issues

I have a gateway pc with a flat panel monitor. Every once in a while
the monitor will just go black. The power light stays green. The only
way to get it back on is to power the monitor off and on sometimes
several times before it will go back to normal.

Ive tried different monitors, drivers, and video cards, gateway even
put a new hard drive in it. So far nothing has worked.

Any ideas on what to try next are greatly appreciated.

Easy Uncle Grunpy (you are right however - but a little tact?).

"emleman" - can you have "background" sound or music active - when monitor
goes black does sound continue to function. There may be no connection
between the "defect' and powering the monitor on and off several times
Could be an intermittent power supply problem. or cable not seated
completely.

Also next time it happens try the old Mule trick - along side the head!

How about trying another monitor, digital or analog. I had a brand new one I
couldn't believe it was defective, it was. Maybe even a cable, analog or
DVI.

Check the connections. Also if you can try a different monitor and use your
monitor on a different computer to isolate the issue.

Sounds like a bad/defective connection for the backlight. If under
warranty, contact the vendor, if not, check with a repair shop for
approximate cost to fix.

Simple fix, right click the desktop, left properties, choose the screen
saver tab, choose power, under power schemes choose always on. click apply
ok. done

Make sure that the plug of the power supply cable is firmly fitted
into the inlet on the monitor: occasionally this does come loose,
especially after you have moved the monitor for cleaning. Make sure
also that the plug into the power supply (back of the computer box? or
separate mains outlet?) is equally snug.
