monitor - horizontal line

Chris Martin

I recently purchased a ViewSonic P220f monitor (20" viewable screen). About
3 inches from the to pof the page there is a horizontal line that is ever so
faint. Is this normal in large CRT monitors? Could it be a software glitch
and not a hardware glitch?

TIA,
~Chris

If it's the same as my,"Dell" then there's usually two faint lines. One
at the top and one near the bottom. If so it's normal.
HTH :)

It's typical of all aperture grille monitors, which your Viewsonic is.
Smaller screens (eg. 17") usually have only a single line across the
center. Those "lines" are actually very thin wires holding the
aperture grille in place.

Have you also noticed the 4 dark dots near the corners? And the small
Xs in the upper right side? And the squiggly lines 3/4 down on the
right side?

Oh the humanity, the whole monitor just turned into a big empty screen! It
isn't showing me anything! I didn't do anything to it at all. Is this a
hardware fault? Maybe I can reload the drivers! I'm going nuts!

~Chris

(or maybe I could just take it outta standby..)

This is normal for all Sony Trinitron, Mitshubishi Diamantron and any
other type of tube with the same technices. The lines are stabilasors
for the aparturegrill. If these lines weren't there and you would bump
against your monitor, the screen would be shaking without end.
