Monitor blanks during boot

My mom's computer w/ XP Home. Had minor issue and she starts clicking away.
Monitor goes blank. Now when it boots, monitor displays Windows booting logo
normally, then monitor blanks, monitor power display light changes from green
to yellow, and Windows startup chime is heard normally (i.e. the monitor is
blank, but Windows appears to be running normally). Any ideas? Thanks in
advance.

well, i had a similar problem before with a computer, the system "appears" to
be running normal (i also heard the startup chime you mention) but you can't
see anything. My first thought was it was a monitor failure, what i did back
then, is tried my monitor on another pc, if it didn't work, i'd assume it was
a monitor failure...which actually happened, so i got another one...but...i
also "used" the ocasion to reinstall my xp system again on my computer, and
after that (new monitor and reinstall) everything worked just fine....so, i
couldn't be sure what was the exact problem, but in my opinion (based on what
i wrote down here) you should check your monitor in other computers, or your
computer on another monitors.

Hope it helps :)

If someone changed the parameters of the video display beyond what the
monitor can reproduce, the monitor will be blank at bootup of XP when it
starts the video output. Prior to that, the bios has control. Try safe
mode, and revert the video settings to that which the monitor can reproduce.
