modifying cell width within same column, but on different rows

Is there a way to adjust cell width in my worksheet - so that at the top it
might be one inch wide, but down 30 rows, I'd like the width to be only half
inch because I'm creating a different chart (not one I could import) that
requires different spacing.

Can you maybe make a section break (like in Word) before the area where I
want to adjust my column widths - so that it doesnt affect the column width
above that point?

I am stumped on this one. Thanks for your ideas.

Sorry, Goldie, but you just cannot do that in Excel. Cells in a column are
all the same width, cells in a row are all the same height.

You might look at merging cells - which sometimes is a good thing, but can
cause other problems: you could merge where you need the wide cells then just
not merge down where you need the narrow ones.

Column width and row height are the properties of the entire column or row.

Is this worksheet just for display or would you trying to calculate or sort
or filter data?

If just for display you can use "merge cells" on the top half.

Or create the two areas on separate worksheets with the appropriate column
widths.

Take a picture of the half-size area(gridlines and all) and paste it below
the full-size area in an area you have changed the cells' background to
white.

To take a picture either use the Camera Tool or select the range and

SHIFT +Edit>Copy Picture.
