Hi!
I received a warning that some files required by XP had been replaced by
unrecognized versions. The message asked me to insert the Windows XP
installation CD in order to "repair" the files. When I did so, I was told
that I had inserted the WRONG CD! That is NOT possible, however. I finally
had to cancel to the original error message.
Earlier versions of Windows had a "repair" procedure to check system files
for the correct version and replace with correct versions if necessary.
What is the procedure to "Repair" XP? ( I tried inserting the Windows XP
CD. I expected to get a choice to modify, repair, or reinstall the OS, but
did not.)
Also, is there a way for the user to produce the original warning message?
(Obviously, the message disappeared after I clicked cancel. It has appeared
several more times at seemingly random intervals. I have not found a way to
produce it at will, however.) Why would the system not recognize the
original CD when I inserted it?
Thanks -
