I just had the my modem, set not to connect
automatically, dial into my ISP all by itself. Needless
to say I am rather spooked by this. It might be my kid
playig with the computer and not shutting it down but I
have other issues that lead me to think I might have a
virus or some king of malware. For the first 5-10
minutes on line I can open any apps and the apps that are
open run very slowly or crash. Everything then opens at
once and runs normally. task mamanage doesn't show any
resource hogging background apps. All this coupled with
this morning unwanted dial up has me thinking I have a
virus or somekind of malware.
What logs can I check within XP Pro (stand a lone machine)
with IIS running, to see who or what was was being dialed?
I wnat to rule out the kid by seeing what time the dial
up started.
I have Norton and I keep the Dat files current.
I have the free version of adaware (version 6) what else
can I use to check for malware?
