modem error

hi i'm having trouble signing on to the internet, when i try an message
pops up saying it does not dectect a modem help pls.

Right click MyComputer.
Click Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager.
Is your Modem listed as a device and are there a conflicts, unknown or other
present?
