Modem Dialing - Slows Computer to Uselessness ?

Hi,

This is always a problem, but it
seems to be a lot worse, when I've got
extra malware.

For all practical purposes, the
computer just stops paying attention to
me, while the modem is dialing.

I run a commercial firewall/AV
subscription service; and I've been
running a subscription "spyware"
application, for a couple of months,
though I've little confidence in it.

What's with the resources drain,
when the modem is dialing ?

Thanks,
Ken .

Not every AV / spyware program will find "everything". You should do other
"scans" with other utilities also.

Hi,

You're absolutely right.
I haven't done that in awhile.
You didn't mention, that it works
much better, done in "safe mode".
After updating, of course.

Thank-you,
Ken .

Hi,

I'm still having trouble with
this; and I installed my old 2002 copy
of Norton system Works (NSW); and I
started up Norton System Doctor (NSD).

Something weird !
When the connection fails, my CPU
usage, drops to near zero; and the
instant the modem dials, it goes to
100%, and stays there, or near there.

I can only guess, that this has
been going on, all along; but "Task
Manager", shows no special task
activity, and no new applications using
resources.

My AV provider, does sometimes use
from an average of 17%-30% to an
occasional aberration of 85%-99% of the
CPU, but it seems to be behaving,
today.

I don't think, that I believe Task
Manager on this.
There's someone, or some riot,
going on, that Task Manager either
doesn't know about, or is hiding.

More, as I learn about it ...
Ken .
