In this XP machine,I have been using cdrw but when I change to dvdrw, it
would not detect eith in "my computer" or in the bios/POST. In the bios boot
sequence, it only have the cdrom/c/floppy or other sequence.. There it does
not have dvd/dvdrw option. Does that means for this pc I cannot install the
dvdrw? Is there any other way out to use dvdrw other than to throw the pc out
the window. Thanks

I can guarantee you that if you throw the pc out the window that it will
never see your dvdrw.

Some older BIOS's see a DVD unit still as a CDROM. I had
such a case on my AMD Athlon XP1800. So you should carefully
read the BIOS entry. Set the boot-option to CDROM and then
start a live-CD.

If you give more details about the motherboard in question
precise help can be offered, like if you need to update the
BIOS, so that the DVD-drive is seen as such...

Again some old BIOS's will not boot from a DVD drive either.
I'm not sure anymore if this was the case on my box, as
I had also a CDROM R/W and most often used that as
boot-option....

As for Windows XP itself I'm not sure if you need to install
a driver for the unit. I don't use Windows as my OS...
