MM won't reconfigure to 700 MB CDR's?

Hi,
When I choose to burn to CD, MM will only read the CDR as
being the older 650 MB and won't let me use the extra 50
megs. I've gone through everything I can on
reconfiguring and there appears to be no way of changing
the setting. Checked through all the FAQs and posts here
(although I can't get the MS group site to show posts
covering more than a week) to see if this is a common
problem. Nothing! Nada! Went to your excellent website
PapaJohn, still nothing.

Oh, I recently upgraded to MM2 version, you'd think that
would have fixed it. But nooooo....!

Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Hi Mally,

Are you trying to put a bigger movie on a blank disc, or add another movie
to one already used? Are you using the MM2 feature to burn it - with the
HighMAT menu structure?

MM2 will add to a previously used disc, but won't add another one to it if
there is not at least 50 MB free. Maybe the HighMat CD Writing Wizard would
let you - link of CD Burning... HighMAT page of www.papajohn.org

Hi Mally,

Hi there PapaJohn,
Are you trying to put a bigger movie on a blank disc,

Yes, as in putting say a 685 MB movie onto a 700 MB new
blank disc. The default won't go over 650 MB. If I
select the "best fit to file size" option in the 'Copy to
CD' options, I'll get that yellow warning sign and
the 'Next" button is greyed out until I go to just under
650 MB in the size window. Also in the MM2 Help on
burning to CDR it says: "You can choose to save one or
more movies to a recordable CD, which typically holds up
to 650 MB."

IOW, Microsoft didn't bother to update to an option to
allow for the 700 MB sized CD's.

(I'm transferring all our old home movies from 8mm film
to video/CDR and I need all the room I can get on each
disk.)
or add another movie to one already used?

No, I prefer to use other software to do that.
Are you using the MM2 feature to burn it - with the
HighMAT menu structure?

Seems like it'll burn with the HighMAT format without
giving you an option not to use that if you choose a
direct burn to CDR. Another instance of having to use
other s/w because I can't change MM2's configuration when
I don't want HighMAT.

I read through your excellent info, thank you. Extremely
useful and comprehensive. However, the Wizard is part of
the problem even with blank new CDR's. Because of the
650 max configuration, it's greying out the 'Next' button
I think.

Perhaps there's a way to reconfigure through Windows
system, but I ain't going there! :) I guess I'm stuck
with being unable to use a direct CDR burn of over 650
MB's in MM2 until MS catches up - say about ten years!
<g> Good thing other s/w is much quicker in staying up
to date.

Thanks for the input & your efforts to try and solve the
problem, much appreciated.
