missing xp icons

R

Richard

I recently downloaded a new theme for xp, but after a
while decided i didn't like it so deleted it.

But now a load of xp icons are missing. Is there any way
of getting them back?

On the start menu, the 'search' and 'run' icons are
missing
The control panel folder icon is missing and in the
control panel the following do not have icons:
admin tools
network connections
printers and faxes
scheduled tasks

Is there a way to retrieve them, or can i download them
from somewhere (but I don't want to download a 3rd party
program to do this)???

Hi Richard,

Click Start/Run and type REGSVR32 /i SHELL32.DLL

This resets most of the icons to factory defaults. You need to restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

If some of the icons are still missing, start Registry Editor and navigate to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons]
Export the key to a REG file and post the contents here.

Great. Now that you have a backup of the Shell Icons
key. In the right-pane of the Shell Icons key, delete all
the entries you see (0 - 45). They are pointing to a
wrong location.

Hi Richard,

Click Start/Run and type REGSVR32 /i SHELL32.DLL

This resets most of the icons to factory defaults. You
need to restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
If some of the icons are still missing, start Registry Editor and navigate to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers
ion\Explorer\Shell Icons]
Export the key to a REG file and post the contents here.

Hi Richard,

Click Start/Run and type REGSVR32 /i SHELL32.DLL

This resets most of the icons to factory defaults. You
need to restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

If some of the icons are still missing, start Registry
Editor and navigate to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers
ion\Explorer\Shell Icons]
Export the key to a REG file and post the contents here.
