Missing xp files

I have window's xp and had the automatic update running and now have the
newer version xps2. some of the old files to run xp correctley are now
missing and i dont know how to restore them when i insert my xp disc it says
a newer version is running and and will not install the missing files. what
do I need to do to correct this?
 
Hi

Open Windows Explorer and find the i386 folder. Try pointing to that
instead of using the XP CD.
