HI expert:

I have post this in the morning and still don't get any
reply. Please tell me if this is the right place to post
this topic!!!!!!!!!!!!

My computer was infected by some kind of virus and some
system files were deleted. I am using WindowsXP
professional and the system asks for "ntldr" when I
restart. However I don't have "emergency repair disk".

Therefore I try to copy "ntldr, ntdetect", and create
a "boot.ini" to c:\. Now when I restart, it doesn't ask
for ntldr anymore but it stops and will not go any
further. I can't go to safemode or registry.

What else are required to start Windows and how to repair
it? Also, Please check whether my boot.ini is right
below!!!
I am using WindowsXP Professional with NTFS format. 3
partitions c:d:f: Pentium4 2.0g, 120GB harddrive.

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

***If I choose "repair to reinstall WindowsXP" from CD,
will it erase my other personal data on my hd?? What
about the software and do I need to reconfig all?
..

try booting up to the windows XP cd and run the repair option after you
agree to the lisc. its not the first repair option because that requires a
boot disk. FYI you will not lose any data by doing this, as long as you
don't format and or del the partition.

I hope this helps

If failed, try this - How to Recover from a Corrupted Registry That Prevents
Windows XP from Starting -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545&Product=winxp

It could be some registry files have been corrupted.
