Hi

I am not sure how significant this is as I think most of the systems still
start but are not shown in the sys tray.

When I start my system I have had to use a password so that the start can be
paused for a time otherwise a number of the sys tray icons like my AV and
others don't show up!
The clock always shows up but very occasionally by itself.

If I wait at the password point of boot up for a minute then all seems fine.

But does this point to a building problem?

My lap tops don't have this issue and run from boot up to OS without issue.

Thanks

Your security software is the cause of that problem. Just to test it,
turn it off from auto-starting and see what happens. You shouldn't
have it on at start-up anyway, just turn it on before you go online.

Hi

Zone Alarm, Avira AV, Spybot, Spyware Guard.
Which one do you refer to please?
Apart from Zone Alarm I have had others in the place of the current ones
with the same issues?

Hi Mike,

I use AntiVir and occasionally scan with Spybot and don't have the
issue, so I would look at the other two.

BTW, your signature file is causing the web interface to insert a
delimiter (dash dash space) which proper newsreaders see as being the
end of a post. Since you're replying at the top, everything below the
delimiter gets deleted. You may want to stop using the signature or get
a newsreader like Mozilla Thunderbird.

Thanks Terry

I have removed the sig

...

If you're on a high-speed router, you're on line the moment
you start. I'd consider taking this advice only if I were still
on dial-up. Otherwise, I'd pull the phone jack at some junction,
such as the surge suppressor, or pull the network plug from the
back of my machine before attempting such an experiment.

Thanks Mike for your consideration. Report back if one of the other two
are the culprit.

Sadly that page won't open for me.

However my icons show and sometimes there is a little arrow so I can see
them all.

Try it again. Or Google kb279771 and see if you can get to it that way.

Why would anyone connect there computer to the internet at start-up?

Makes no sense. Just connect when you want to browse and disconnect
when your done.
