HI,

The Start button appears only when not locked, and at least one toolbar is selected, but it is still missing the running application icons in task bar.

Look for a |:| icon on the task bar right click then select properties to
make your settings.

No, the property settings won't bring back the running application icons (grouped or not).

Is it possible that you placed the task bar group edge right next to some
other tool bar? I was able to make the grouped icons appear missing by sliding
the quick launch toolbar against the start menu. If that isn't the problem
then you may want to check the knowledge base at MS
