Missing print spool after SP2 upgrade

During my SP2 upgrade, I seemed to have lost all my printers in the Printer
and Fax folder. I attempted to reinstall printers, but when I click the ADD
PRINTER icon, I get the error message: OPeration could not be completed.
Printer spool is not running.

How do I remedy this issue? I even lost my access to my home network printer!

I have the exact problem.. Could you detail how you resolved this issue?
Greatly appreciated..Ron

I am having this exact same problem. I looked at the link you provided and
issued the "net start spooler" command. The spooler restarts successfully,
but as soon as I try to print, the spooler shuts down again. Did simply
restarting the spooler actually work for you?

It is not working for me. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

I followed the steps specified in the link you sent me. The problem is that
I cannot delete or add any printers. When I get to step 3 where it says to
delete the printer and when I get to step 4 where I am supposed to delete the
printer drivers, both steps fail because the print spooler is not running.
So I restarted the print spooler. Now that it is running, I tried to delete
the printer (Step 3) and it fails because the print spooler has gone down
again. So, either the print spooler simply will not stay up and running, or
the action of trying to delete a printer causes the spooler to go down.
Either way, I cannot delete or add or use any printers at this time.

If you have any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

This did the trick. I downloaded the Windows Resource Kit and followed the
directions as outlined in the link you sent me and I am now able to print
again. The tool that I used was the cleanspl.exe tool to clean up the print
spooler. Thank you very much for this tip!

Thank you so much you are a wonder. The shaw article totally nailed it on
the head for us because we had uninstalled a lexmark printer. We had no idea
that lexmark changed the way the spooler was called. This fixed our problem.
Thanks so much.
