Option 1.

Download TweakUI from Microsoft here:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Direct Download of TweakUI
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Install the program.
Go to Start -> All Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP ->
TweakUI.
Once the program is running, click on the + sign next to Common
Dialogs in the left hand column.
Click on Places bar.
Select "Show default places".
Click OK.
Go to save a file and see if the problem is fixed.

Option 2.

Go to Start -> Run and enter regedit.exe in the Open box.
Click OK.
Navigate to the following registry key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\comdlg32\PlacesBar

Right click on the key in the left hand column and select
Export from the menu that pops out.
Save the .reg file to a handy location such as your desktop.
Go back and right click on the registry key except this time
select Delete from the menu.
Test to see if this solves your problem.
If so, you can delete the .reg file you saved earlier.
