Missing Firewall

I have been setting up a new small network and encountered the strangest thing!

I set up my servers and went through the authorisation and uathentication
processess as per usual. I then created my user and computer accounts within
their respective OUs, pinged back and forth and got all the required Host (A)
Records. I created GPs and applied them as needed.

Now, here comes the weird bit. All of my XP machines were unable to connect
to the internet through my RRAS/VPN server so I looked to see if Win Firewall
is enabled ... but there was NO FIREWALL OR ANY SECURITY SETTINGS ICON IN
CONTROL PANEL! I looked in the registry as well, but there was nothing to be
found nowhere and out of the blue my XP machines prompt the following
whenever I try to put them on the domain : " No DC for the xxxxx domain could
be found. Please ensure that the name is typed correctly ... ..."?

I have scanned for Viral infections using Symantec, but nothing was found!
I checked for Spyware and Adware, but still, to no avail!

I would GREATLY appreciate it if anyone could advise me on this.

Look at the Properties for the LAN connectoid under the Advanced tab.
Click on the button to look at the firewall settings. If the firewall
wasn't enabled, you get prompted to start it. However, if, for
example, you have set the ALG service to Disabled which is used by the
firewall (and by ICS) then you can't start the firewall.

I have never see a "SECURITY SETTINGS" applet in Control Panel. I
have see the "Security Center" applet, though.

Did you check the logs on your firewall appliance to see if the test
host even attempted to make a connection request to your firewall
appliance?
