Hello,
I have a client who is missing the Firewall link in Security Center. The
other two are in place and firewall.cpl works fine from run. I've tried the
online utility from, I believe, secsecurity but that doesn't work. How do I
restore the icon and link for the Windows Firewall in Security Center?
Thanks,

I am answering because I have not seen any other answers to this.
I am useing a 3rd party Firewall. And the icon on system tray dissapeared.
After running "Spybot and AdAware to no avail. I cleared all TIFs and at
reboot the icon came back. There must have been something attached to a
cookie or sort that hid the firewall access. Don't really know if this would
cause the onboard firewall onXP to vanish but you may try this.

Open Security Center, click "Change the way Security Center alerts me"
and make sure "Firewall" is checked.

That's the program I did try that did nothing but thanks for responding!

I think this may do it. I will try it at my client's and let you know. Thanks
for the heads up.

Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\don't load

Delete the value named "firewall.cpl" if found.

Close Regedit.exe

Let us know, please, as I kind of doubt it.
Unchecking an option there has not removed it from Security Center on machines where
I have tested it, but it's worth a try.

See Ramesh's reply elsewhere in this thread.

Indeed, that did not work. Thank you all for your suggestions but nothing has
done it. In case I didn't make myself clear I will run through this again:
The firewall works. Everything fuctions as it should. All registry entries
that I can find are there and normal. Firewall.cpl is alive and living at
Windows\system32 as it should. I can access the firewall through 'Start; Run;
firewall.cpl' and make any and all changes I want. The ONLY glitch in all
this is that the icon/link that is normally found in the 'Security Center' is
gone. The other 2 are there. The program mentioned in the above post did not
fix this issue. In fact, when I first ran it, it took out ALL of the
icon/links in 'Security Center'. When I ran it again I checked all 3 boxes
and the icon/links came back - except for the Firewall.

So, I am still baffled as I have never seen anything like this that can't be
fixed simply. Thanks again for all of your help and if you think of anything
else - that would be great!

Dennis
