missing files

I opened a floppy disc this morning, the computer crashed and now I can't get
anything of the disc, please can anyone help?

Hi Poppy (what a lovely name), you could try Windows check disk.

Go into My Computer, find your floppy drive (usually A - right clic
on this (with the floppy disk in there) and select Properties, the
Tools, under Error Checking click Check Now, tick both boxes and clic
Start.

If a drive or file is being accessed while a computer crashes i
usually causes corruption. The disk scan will attempt to fix an
corruption which might have occured. If this does not work and th
file is very important to you, there are plenty of tools on th
internet which will retrieve it for you.

Hi Fuzzyfreak (strange name) Thanks for your suggestion, but it has not
worked, I don't think my computer is even reading the disk anymore, the files
are very important to me as they are not mine and I only had the disk to copy
it, please can you suggest anything form the intranet.

If you can not copy the files from the floppy, the files are gone
This is a good opportunity to suggest a change in computing habits. When
working with Excel and floppy disks -- it is NEVER a good idea to save directly
to or open directly from any removable medium. In Excel, save file to HD, copy
to floppy, then on other end, copy from floppy to HD, then open file on HD into
Excel.

I would ignore Lady Layla's point about the files being "Gone" - th
files are never actually gone and in fact 99% of files are recoverabl
even after extreme physical abuse. The corruption has probably jus
caused some fragmentation or cluster loss and if you are prepared t
pay a little money for the following program, you should be back up i
no time.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I took your advice and hay presto problem
sorted. All files restored for a lttle cost but worth it.
