Missing "File" Button

T

Tom

Both my IE 6.0 and my Explorer for WinXp have the File button missing. This
button is on the "Standard Buttons Toolbar," the very top one with Edit,
View, Favorites Tools and Help.

I have tried everything to retrieve them to no avail. I have managed to
uninstall and reinstall IE (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378) and
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=304872).

I have used third party software that is supposed to restore the original
settings to both toolbars (XP_ToolbarFix.exe).

I have also run adware/spyware programs and Norton Antivirus.

Any new suggestions short of re-installing would be greatly appreciated

Check your system for "hijackware":

Dealing with Hijackware

http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

CoolWebSearch Chronicles

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

Ramesh...It was that key! God bless you! I was, with dismay coming to the
conclusion that I would have to do a much more drastic thing...like at least
a Win Repair. The last time I did that it was a disaster. Thanks so much. If
I worked for one of the big money guys I'd hire you in a second!! And your
website is GREAT!!!!
