The Parasite Fight:

I am not using and software provided by the ISP. I have Verizon as the ISP
(DSL) at a four person office. We have a Linksys router and a switch that
ties eveyone together. We are running just IE6 and no other software has
been loaded on any machine to connect up. We use Outlook to a third party
provider for e-mail (POP3). I agree that deleting the cookies and temp
files should not have done anything. But that is the only thing out of the
ordinary that I had done between Monday (when it was o.k.) and Tuesday. My
machine has been up and running for about six months. I don't remember
doing anything in the last few days that might have caused the change. If
this happens again, I will post it again.
Thanks for your help.
Neal
YW. Still would like to know which software is changing the path. Are you
using any browser/software provided by your ISP?

Thank you, That fixed the problem. I had to change my account to
"administrator" previliges. I then ran TweakUI. Somehow the Favorites
shell folder got changed to "Favorites" in the "Windows" directory. Don't
ask me how. However, your suggestion fixed everything.
Thanks again,
Neal
Hi Neal,
Deleting the Cookies does not cause this. A application which you use, is
changing the Favorites shell folder path in the registry. Windows stores the
location of per-user special folders (including favorites path) here:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]
You can change the path there. Or, use TweakUI and change the location of
Special folders.
TweakUI v2.00 for Windows XP/XP MCE [564 KB].
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
TweakUI v2.10 for Windows XP SP1/XP MCE/2003 [147 KB].
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
The correct (defaults) values should be:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]
%userprofile%\Favorites
The "Shell Folders" path will update automatically with reference to "User
Shell Folders" environ value.

I am running IE6 with XP Pro.
All of a sudden all of my favorites are gone. If I click the Favorites drop
down, all that is there is "Add to Favorites" and "Organize Favorites". If
I try and add a favorite, nothing happens. If I click on Organize
Favorites, I also get nothing. If I go to "Documents and Settings/my
account/favorites" with the windows browser I see all of the entries.
I was at a web site earlier today (a bank) and had a problem. They
suggested that I delete cookies and files under Temporary Internet Files
(which I did). I don't know if that cause the problem or not.
Anybody have any ideas how to fix this. I have an anti-virus program
(McAfee) which I keep uptodate regularly.
