Missing e-mail text from inbox

I had about 20 messages in my in-box that are missing. When I open my e-mail
there are several messages with the same date in the menu area that look like
they could be the missing messages but when I click on them nothing happens.
They have a date and then a six digit code separated by hypens. Is there a
way to view what these items are? Why did this happen? All of my other
messages that I had previously moved to folders are still there and I am able
to access them.
