i am not sure when exactly this problem occured but i noticed the other day
when i went to burn a cd that media player said that no cd or dvd drive was
detected. I then realized it doesnt show up under explorer either. I checked
under device manager to see about the driver but its gone from there too. Its
like my all traces of having that drive has been wiped out. System restore
was of no help. It it helps i have about a year and a half old toshiba m45
laptop. Pushing the eject button does nothing unless i kind of push in hte
drive door and then there is power to it. Any ideas?

Is the drive a removable model? If yes, then you may have an internal
connector problem, where the drive fails to connect correctly. Have the
laptop hardware checked or replaced if still under warranty.

unfortunately its not under warranty and yes it is a removable model. Im a
little hesitant to try any doctoring but i found a manual online that says
all it takes is one screw to remove the drive. Would taking out the drive you
think shed some light on my problem?

p.s iv read alot of other posts on this and the regedit tools that should
bring back the icons dont work with me.
