Restore Missing CD Drive
http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

[[The popular CDGONE patch. CD drives may vanish in Windows Explorer, Device
Manager, etc. if a third-party CD-burning package has been uninstalled and
Registry references for some code modules aren’t removed successfully. This
patch and a reboot usually will restore the missing drives. Any third
party package still required will then have to be re-installed. ]]

Restore CD/DVD Drives to Explorer

Have you checked the jumper pins to make sure they are set correctly? If both
drives are running on the same cable, one drive must be set to Master and the
other to Slave. The drive set as Slave must be connected to the END of the
IDE cable, with the Master connected between the IDE slot and the Slave.

For setting the pins correctly, there is usually a diagram on the drive
showing how to set the pin(s). If not, go to the manufacturer's website to
find the settings. If the drives are made by DIFFERENT manufacturers, then
you may need to experiment a bit.

Hope this helps you.

There are 2 "ends" to the IDE or indeed any type of cable. Which "end" do
you mean, the blue end or the black end? My understanding is that new IDE
cables have got one cable "nicked" at the BLUE end which should be connected
to the motherboard while the BLACK end of the cable is to be connected into
the MASTER drive which leaves the GRAY connector to be connected to the
SLAVE drive.

So....
BLUE to MOTHERBOARD,
BLACK to MASTER.

Right?
