Missing application icons in taskbar

My dad's computer no longer shows application icons in the taskbar when
minimized. I've done a full virus scan and spyware scan but they still
don't show up. What else do I look for? He said he thought this happened
after some automatic update a few weeks back. I googled this but didn't
find anything.

Obviously not the right thing! This taskbar repair utility fixed the
