mirroring to extern fw800 drive

I run XP Pro, with latest updates. I've just gotten an external firewire
800 drive, for backup-only purposes. While the included backup software
seems to work fine, I'd like to change to disk mirroring. Unforunately, the
help is rather cryptic on this subject. Can anyone provide a short
tutorial?

Disk mirroring usually refers to Raid.
Raid can be done by software raid or hardware raid
I'm unsure whether you can implement software raid with Winxp Pro or if its
Server only. Many seem to advise against software raid.
Hardware raid is supplied via a mobo controler or card
You can also use software, eg Ghost, Acronis to Image a drive
