Subject: QMS 6110GN-who has a bad experience?

hi- we have a Minolta-QMS 6110GN in my office, loaded with several
options
including additional paper tray, internal hard disk, lots of RAM, etc.
We
also have the service contract on it (performed by IBM actually)

We have had nothing but problems with it, the print quality has been
horrid, and we have had one problem in particular, where any area of
solid color (even a small area) tends to be very blotchy and
inconsistent.
Basically, this makes most color prints look like crap. We have also
noticed that the consumables finish MUCH quicker than they are rated
for, which is a big deal when the toner carts cost several hundred
dollars a pop. Interface is also a little flakey, often have to power
cycle the printer to get it to respond to network jobs. I should
point out that our use of the printer is fairly light- right now
it only has about 2000 faces printed total.

The service guy changed every part he could think of, sometimes the
performance would improve for a little bit but then it would go back
to been spotty.

IN ADDITION, Minolta actually shipped us a BRAND NEW printer after the
first one refused to behave (maybe six months into its life), that
new printer which is now a little less than a year old has the
IDENTICAL issues as the old one. This leads me to think that this is
a serious lemon model, a very expensive one at that.

I am wondering if other people have had similar issues with this
model, as I am considering taking what steps to take to rectify
this problem, including returning the thing to Minolta.
----------------------------

Wow, this is EXACTLY our sob story, except that Minolta refused to
extend the
warranty longer than a year from the date of purchase,
even though we never had a 100% working printer, and even though they
sent us
a replacement machine 4 months after the purchase. We had bought
this thing as our primary printer, and was our only option during an
intensive period of need for printing, so we had to endure the bad
quality.
The tech support people were also rude. This model is a lemon...and
an expensive one. We are going through
K toner at ten times the rated rate, and most of the time the quality
is
blotchy and streaky. We will NEVER again do business with Minolta,
except
to buy their ridculously expensive cartridges through third parties
until
we can get enough funding to be able to put this thing out of its
misery.

If its any help I sent this to Buffalo regarding the 2200:

"Is your 64meb 100mhz Sdram 168pin unbuffered 3.3v, part number
PC102NSU064 compatible with the Minolta-QMS magicolor desklaser 2200?"

To which the answer was yes. So you might get a more useful answer from
them.

Thanks Tim
I found a module in one of my PCs that it reconized then I emailed the
Company whom made it.

Below is their reply: What sucks IS MINOLTA could not tell me the
specification for their own printer. This sounds bad for the future of my
printer.

How did your 2200 hold up???

Fine until it came to wanting a new fuser unit at which point I decided
to change to a Xerox Phaser, with a much glossier output.

Did you ever refill any toner cartridges?? I'm using this for home and
want to keep expenses down. It sucks being a fulltime 44 year old college
student. Besides this was only a $$569 printer. But now I'm wondering if I
should have bought the new Brother Color model. I have had good luck with
their BW printers

You'd probably be better off with an HP. or even a Samsung. Can't
comment on Brother as I haven't used them. Kyocera are excellent, but
I don't think they do a colour laser in your price range (they are
much cheaper to run, however).
