Minolta 5400 Scanner - Light Streaks on Scans??

My Minolta 5400 scanner is less than a week old. I scanned a bunch of
NPH negs (344) and found light streaks on 74 of them. The streaks are
NOT on the negs.

Is this problem common to this scanner or do I have a lemon?

Make sure you have the latest firmware.

Yes, and after working with it a while, re-initialize the scanner
calibration with CTRL-SHIFT-I.
