When I minimize an application it disappears from the taskbar. I have to get
to the task manager to find them. What should I do to restore them on the
task bar??

I have a similar, but not identical problem. One of my applications, and one
only,
disappears from the screen when I minimize it. The icon does not disappear
from the task bar. I can get it back to full screen by right clicking the
task bar icon and selecting "Maximize".
I have tried changing the screen resolution, running the app on the laptop
only (no additional monitor connected), and running it on the external
monitor with no extended desktop.
This behavior is very recent. I used to be able to use "Minimize" it,
re-size it, and drag it across the screen or over to my extended desktop.
Now I can only run it on the primary monitor in maximized state (external
monitor set as primary).
Will the vb script referred to below fix my problem?
I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 on an HP laptop connected to an LG LCD monitor.

"Minimize" minimizes to the Taskbar. I think you're referring to the
"Restore" option which makes the window resize to the position it was in
before it was maximized. This window could have had its location
damaged within the registry, which could place it off-screen. If so,
you can get it back on-screen in these ways:

- Right-click the Taskbar, click "Cascade Windows".

- Right-click the task on the Taskbar, click Move, click and rotate the
mouse till you have it positioned on-screen.

- Press Alt/Spacebar, M, and use the cursor keys to move it (hopefully)
on-screen. This worked better in Win95, when a window could move
off-screen just enough that you couldn't quite get a hold on the blue
bar atop the window, but I thought I'd add it anyway.

Thanks - I managed to get it back. Not sure what I did that was the actual
solution, but I re-booted and set the laptop as the primary monitor and the
external LCD as the secondary, and then switched them, and also tried a few
different resolution settings..

If I am correctly understanding your description of the problem,
Quicken is especially prone to it. Here's what to do:

1. Get Quicken (or whatever program) to not be maximized. You can use
the Restore setting, click on the Maximize button or double-click the
title bar.

2. Right-click the Quicken icon on the task bar and then type "M" for
Move.

3. Use the arrow keys to move left or down. Once you start using the
arrow keys the mouse will work, and you can use the mouse to move the
window into view.

4. If that didn't work, the window is probably set to a 0x0 size.
Right click on the icon again, but this time, type "S" for Size. Use
the arrow keys, then the mouse as before to resize it.
