Hi,

I was running an NT4 network with 1 PDC & BDC. My plan was to migrate the
network over to two brand new w2k servers.

I've upgraded the PDC to keep all the security information. I then planned
to add the 2 new servers into the domain and drop the two old NT servers.

However while running dcpromo on the first w2k server and trying to install
in the domain, I'm getting the error message 'cannot find forest or domain'.
The win2k server's DNS is configured to look at the win2k DC (i.e. the
upgraded PDC).

Does anyone know what is the matter with this? Can you add new domain
controllers when running in mixed mode?

To the last question, yes you can.

I'd suggest adding them as member servers, then running dcpromo. Then
you at least know that it is corectly joined before you try to dcpromo
it.

Those sorts of problems are almost always DNS-related.

Cheers,

Cliff
