migrating w2k partition on a different HD

Hi all
i am trying to migrate a w2k pro partition to another hard
disk using ghost2002.
the cloning of the partition is uneventful and all files
are in the right place, however the partition loaded on
the second disk wont allow access to any user, saying that
password is not correct.

of course the password is correct.

any ideas?

thanks

By any chance could the system key be set up any differently on the other
machine? If youknow nothing about this, simply run syskey from the start run
menu. It would normally (i.e. standard w2k install) show Encryption enabled.
If you click the Update button, It will show System Generated Password, and
Store startup key locally. Dismiss the dialog without making any changes.

This may have absolutely nothing to do with your problem.

Could you explain what W2K partition to what drive? Did the drive letters change [as I suspect they did]?

Is this the OS partition? Have you viewed the disk with Disk Manager and did it ask to write a signature? Did you allow it to do so?

It sounds like you are trying to modify the W2K configuration from outside of W2K. Cloning a partition in a live system can raise havoc with drive letter enumeration, security identifiers, and access rights.

You would have been far better off creating the new partition, using backup to restore the data and using a resource kit utility to migrate access rigthts.

i am trying to migrate the main w2k partition (C:) on a
larger hard disk

i have installed the larger hd as slave primary, then
i have created a partition on the larger hd using disk
manager, and cloned the C: partition on it using
ghost2002, then moved the slave to master and boot

the system boots regularly, but then asks for username and
password, which are always rejected. then the sysetm goes
in a loop at the login screen. clicking shift key will
stop the loop.

i also tried to clone C: to a disk image file then restore
it installing it as master primary, but to no avail.
results are the same.

so i assume that if my main hd crashes, and i have to
replace it, there is no quick way (disk imaging) to
restore it? doesnt sound too good

there must be a way.
