Migration Wizard conceptually allows for the FAST data from an older machine
to be exported to a newer machine. Thus the older system has to be running!
You have 2 versions of XP on 2 Hard Drives, both in the same case. Your
'New' XP is installed as a single boot image, being unaware of the previous
version, and thus you don't have a 'Dual Boot' System...nor would you want it.
If you have an unchanged Hartd Drive from an older machine [or in your case,
dead Mobo]: connect it to the new Mobo as the Primary IDE Interface - Master
IDE Drive and perform a Repair installation of XP off the Installation CD.
Make sure that your new Hard Drive is disconnected for this part of the
process.
This resets that particular 'old' XP configuration to the new Mobo. Windows
should now be up and running: don't bother about activation at this time. You
can then run FAST and save that file on the hard drive: make a folder C:\FAST
DATA.
Once completed, shut down the PC and unplug from mains power. Now connect
this old drive as Secondary IDE Interface - Master IDE Drive and place the
new HDD as Primary IDE Interface - Master IDE Drive. Plug the Power back in.
Boot up [it will go to the new Windows] and then run FAST and import the
FAST data off [now] D:\FAST DATA folder.
To start FAST [Files and Settings Transfer Wizard] click START> ALL
PROGRAMS> ACCESSORIES> SYSTEM TOOLS then select 'Files and Settings Transfer
Wizard'.
After FAST process is completed, verify that all your files and settings
have been implemented and copied to the new XP system. Once you are
confident that everything is OK, you can go ahead and reformat the OLD hard
drive, getting rid of all the system files and application files that are no
longer needed; together with all the data and files created by the user.
This space now becomes clean and free to use again.
