Mid-arrow Textboxes in PPT 2007?

In the old versions of Powerpoint, it was possible to select an 'abc' type of
arrow where a box would appear attached to its center (on double-click in
design mode) that could take text as a label for the arrow.

This no longer works in PPT 2007, and there does not seem to be an
equivalent function available in the toolbox.

Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks!

You might be talking about diagrams in PPT 2003 and 2002. In that case, try
Insert | SmartArt in PPT 2007.

Or just use Insert | Shapes to add an arrow (a block arrow, not just a line
with an arrow "cap" on the end) and start typing in it. You can add text to
all shapes that way.
