I installed Nasa, World Wind, a box came up saying I had to install Net
Framework., which i did. I have no use for world wind, so uninstalled. The
PC is running very slow now. Do I need NET Framework at all and if not, how
do I get rid.Tried a Sustem Repair to an earlier date, but it would not
restore
Thanks

The .net Framework (note that it's not "net" but ".net"--pronounced
"dot net") is the set of run-time support files for programs written
using .net.

If you recall the old visual basic run-time dlls, they are analogous
to the .net framework.

Do you need it? Only if you run a program that needs it. They are
becoming more and more common, so even if you aren't running such a
program at the moment, you likely will soon.

From the information you've provided, I can't tell you why your
computer is running slowly, but I can tell that the reason is *not*
the presence of the .net framework. In fact, the .net framework isn't
even loaded unless you run a program that needs it.

Also note that the .net framework comes in several versions, and the
newer ones don't always substitute for the older ones. I would just
keep them all. They take up very little space and don't hurt you in
any way.

Bill,

Running slow is not a very precise description--can you give us better info
(i.e., boots slow, keyboard response, mouse movement, program loading,
etc.)?

As general information and assuming that you have run scans with an up to
date spyware and AV program, I would open msconfig.exe, startup tab, and see
what is starting at boot. Some of the items may be unknown and you can use
Google.com to determine what they are and whether or not they are necessary.
My personal rule of thumb is only essential programs and those I use during
each computer session are allowed to start at boot.
