Hello. I need to know if I have microsoft word on windows xp home? Thank
you.

Microsoft Word is not a part of Windows XP (or any other Windows OS for that
matter). It is a part of the Microsoft Office Application which is an all
together different thing to Windows.

Greetings --

Don't know, I can't see your computer from here. Why don't _you_
look at it? Or better yet, don't you remember whether or not you've
purchased and installed it?

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

Am I the only one here who thinks that the original postee asked a "real
question"? While more educated computer users understand
XP OS vs it's components, I think the postee just could not find Microsoft
Word - and it has been my experience with the last 3 computers
that I have bought that Word has been part of the package - although a more
recent Gateway had it "hidden" in Microsoft Works, it was still
already installed - just had to look for it - I find an awful lot of sarcasm
in this group - whatever happened to trying to help someone out who
might not know quite as much as you do - I do not think that the original
post called for ridicule - or humor - or whatever Ted Turner & Bruce
Chambers offered - maybe you ought to expend all this energy doing something
positive for someone else - try it - you might like it !

Greetings --

The OP did not ask if Word came as part of WinXP. He/she asked if
he/she had it on his/her computer. The only one who could possibly
know the answer to that question is the OP.

It's not a matter of technical knowledge or computing experience.
It's simple English syntax and grammar: The poster has to ask the
question that will get him/her the answer he/she needs. Asking one
question and expecting to get the answer to a completely different
question is a waste of everyone's time.

Aaaaaawh, c'mon Bruce - you had to know what they meant - or maybe you are
too highly educated to understand the common man !

I hope you don't think people are going to believe that you can hide
Microsoft Word in Microsoft Works , that is impossible ! they are two
different software programs. Computer manufactures will include Works ,
which is relatively inexpensive , but Word doesn't come cheap . You probably
will get sarcastic answers if you put unbelievable statements in your post
like you have done. Jym

Works Suite does have Word included with its bundle, I know that regular Works does not, only simple spread sheets, calendar, etc.

Greetings --

I had an idea of what the OP meant, that's true. Hence, the
second paragraph explaining that Word is not a part of the operating
system. However, my assumption as to the OP's meaning doesn't entitle
me to "put words into his mouth," so I felt it proper to answer the
question asked, as well as the question assumed.

Tom - thanks for clearing this up - I did indeed have Microsoft Works
Suite - which included Microsoft Word - Well, I certainly hope that the
original postee has found out whether or not they have Word - amazing how
asking such a simple question prompted so much noise -

You're very welcome Brenda :-)

Sorry, but I cannot agree with you Bruce! Surely you recall
(or should) more than one situation where you needed help on
some matter but didn't even have the means to figure out
which question to ask or even the direction the question
should aim in?
If not, then you must nearly walk on water, and I
respectfully submit that you had better not try to! Your
roof's got a hole in it and you might drown! Three wells to
a river. Need I say more? No, I do not. Never answer
another's rhetorical questions.
Such an attitude as you seem to be expressing makes your
input next to worthless, especially to the non-newbies. If
you're angry, why don't you take your sarcasm and dunder-wit
elsewhere? You can say what you want to me, but when you
attack an innocent...
Now, if you're going to claim it's not an innocent, then
back it up or shut up.

Pop

You may have felt that, but that is NOT what you did. You
need to take a few steps back and settle your quivering
liver. You're not useful in this state.

they are two

Works comes with Word in somje instances (no, not wordpad).
Thus, to many they would never have thought to look in Works
for Word: NOT an unusual event - to find it HIDDEN like
that!

Don't tell me they don't put Word with Works: I can prove
you wrong in an instant.

Whew !!! Thank you Pop - you seem to be the only one here on the same page
as me - thanks for writing -
I feel better now - I usually don't take the time to give the sarcasm any
space - but this whole thing just got
out of hand - someone asking an innocent question - and to be bombarded with
all the nasty remarks - no need of it - not everyone is aware that they
should be "learning how to post to newsgroups" as Bruce Chambers would
suggest - I hope the original postee did indeed "find"
Microsoft Word on their computer - would like to hear back from them - hope
they were not scared off - Whatever happened to that old saying "the only
dumb
question is the one you don't ask"
Brenda

I know what you mean, Brenda, and it does bug me sometimes,
especially when they become sarcastic, egocentric, and show
such lack of consideration and interpersonal skills as has
been growing in frequency here lately. Lest I give the
wrong impression however, it is best, unless you worry that
someone is being treated grossly unfairly as was the case
here, to ignore such slobs. They're like little kids: They
thrive on attention whether it be positive or negative.
Ignore them and they will often go away.

Best of luck to you & I hope the OP got the answer they
needed. Never say "never", and always avoid "always"!
