Microsoft Word 2003. Grammar checker doesn't spot missing quotes.

I notice, when checking the grammar in my novel manuscript, that a line of
speech had no quotation marks (") at the end. Grammar checker failed to spot
this. Can anyone suggest what is going on here?

Yes, the grammar checker doesn't check that quotes match. That's not
necessarily an error anyway -- if the quoted speech runs for more than one
paragraph, each paragraph should have an opening quote but only the final
has the closing quote.

Take a look at Tools>Options>Spelling & Grammar. Make sure it is set for
Grammar & Style, as well aa a check in the box for 'Check Grammar with
Spelling'.

If that doesn't correct it (or if you're using a different grammar Style),
go back to the Options page, click the Settings button in the Grammar
section, then examine the list to see if there is a need to make a change
there.
