Microsoft, why complicate once-simple things?

This is why I hate to upgrade Microsoft software. I still like Office
2003 better than 2007 or 2010, oh well...

Most experienced users of Office agree with you: the ribbon (I'm assuming
that's what you are referring to) wasn't anything that we wanted.
Microsoft's objective was to make the application more easy for
inexperienced users. While they may have accomplished that, the ribbon
primarily annoyed the rest of us, because we had to learn a new interface
for no good reason.

But there isn't anything we can do about the ribbon now. We're stuck with
it. (Over time, one discovers that the new interface isn't better or worse;
it's just different.)

And we've put just about everything we regularly use on the Quick
Access Toolbar and double-clicked the Ribbon into near-invisibility.

Personally I use a combination of QAT buttons and keyboard shortcuts. I also
use the Apply Styles pane (Ctrl+Shift+S) for applying and modifying styles.
I find it more convenient than the Styles pane, which take up a lot of space
in the Word window.
