Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error

When I opened IE 6.0 I received this error message.

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error
Programme C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE.
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it
in an unusual way. Please contact application's support
team. I.E. then closed where after I had to press reset &
allow Scandisc to follow up.

Any suggestions?
