Microsoft Update

After the 11/8/05 automatic update I found my computer frozen in Log Off.
Now I can only open up in safe mode. I have restored 7 days and deleted the
update but without any change. My Event Viewer shows "The Ati Hotkey Plotter
service entered the stop state" 5 minutes after the update. I have an Ati
Radion 9550, in the Device Manager I appear to have two drivers Radion 9550
and Radion 9550 Secondary. Are these conflicting? I have disconnected each
of them without success and after rebooting they reappear. 5 sleepless
nights since the update.

Did you happen to download an ATI driver update from MS Update?

It seems you have somehow downloaded the ATI driver from Microsoft
Update site.Boot into the safe mode and open the device manager and
uninstall both the drivers.
Also goto Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Select the 'ATI -
Software Uninstall Utility' option if available, and click the
Change/Remove button. Follow the prompts from there to uninstall your
existing Catalysts, and reboot as prompted.

Now restart the machine. When you reboot, you will find Windows XP will
detect your graphics card as one (or more) new devices. It will then
attempt to find appropriate drivers for your card.

The ATI Hotkey Poller service is only needed if you use the ATI Hotkey
settings.

Start>Run>type services.msc>ok
Findout the ATI Hotkey Poller service and right click on it select
properties and change the startup type according to your need.

or NET 2.0

Really... I installed that update and every time I booted, I would get
an error about some file not found. Forget the name of the file now
but suffice it to say that removing NET 2.0 got me back to booting
without file-not-found errors.

Thanks for your help which I really appreciate.
I uninstalled as you suggested when the system rebooted It could not find
the software for the driver so I loaded my original Radion disk which
reloaded the drivers successfully however in Device Manager there is now no
"Display Adapters" shown. I have put the ATI Hotkey Poller service to
'Manual'. However there is no change. The last 'Error' message is ID 7026.
Any other ideas?

Thanks for your help. I deleted the updates so now I cannot see them so I do
not know. I have wiped all Ati off my system with the uninstall and
reinstalled with my original disk but with no improvement. When I start up I
get the XP screen for about 5 seconds then a small click and 2 seconds later
a blank screen. Does this help?
