Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapter

I seem to be unable to find out what the "Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapter"
actually does. I understand it can cause problems of some sort but i would
like to know what it is and what it doesn before i try to remove it. By the
way, how does one remove it?
